Odds are, a number of reporters at the weekly news publication Der Spiegel were rabidly jealous of the lucky writer who got to pen the subsequent post lede:”A BMW convertible first aroused the suspicions of a bike cop on patrol in the eastern German city of Eibenstock when water sloshed from it because it drove around a curve.”
When he stumbled upon the car traveling down a city street with a driver and passenger seated inside the car pool, the German bike officer was apparently not impressed, and a third sitting on the back dipping his toes. The cop gave chase, under the assumption that the driver was possibly drunk behind the wheel. Don’t begin with all the puns. Don’t. Just don’t.
If You Turn Your Car Into a Pool And The Cops Chase You… That is Called A”Hot Tub Pursuit”
The passengers later said the obvious when they informed a local bookstore which,”the ride was a dumb idea. It was the first time we drove on a street and we only wanted to get a little fun.” Thankfully, Germany’s roads remain free of any would-be copycats.
The driver and passengers awakened the car. For its mastermind in control of the operation, he decided to come back. The police allowed him to collect sneakers and his wallet, but required him to submit to a blood test for alcohol.
In the event the photograph below doesn’t make it clear, the owner of the BMW in query sealed the interior of the car dumped over 500 gallons of water and decked it out in a nice bar motif. To give a credit to the madman who conceived of the monstrosity, it did actually drive… but only at a high speed of 15 miles per hour. Oh yeah, and it just had one functioning gear. A swimming pool on wheels is one thing, but a swimming pool using a (barely functional) manual transmission? That’s just wrong.
We are not entirely sure this thing is street legal, but the ingenuity involved makes us wonder whether he might not be on something…. Hot tub cars… well it’s 2020, anything is possible.
Putting a pool on your car doesn’t make it a car pool. Sorry. And please, no puns.
