The Fourth of July weekend is only two days away. Maybe you’ve already got the ribs for the barbecue waiting in the fridge, and a sack filled with ice in the freezer for your ice chest of other drinks and sodas. (If you don’t, do your shopping now and beat the rush) But have you really made sure your swimming pool is ready for the vacation pool party?

  • Are your chlorine degrees where they need to be? Don’t let algae get a toehold! When you have lots of swimmers in the pool, then you would like to make sure it isn’t over- or under-chlorinated. Too much and the kids will have sore eyes.
  • Have you been paying attention to this pH? In hot weather, it will not take much time whatsoever for your own pH levels to get out of balance, so be sure to check every day; give yourself enough time to have it dialed before all the swimmers show up. Bear in mind, you want it to be at about 7.2 to 7.6, only a little on the alkaline side.
  • Then you are likely able to kick back and await the fireworks to start if you have done all the above. Enjoy your pool celebration with family and friends, and also have a fantastic Fourth of July!

  • Be sure to clean debris from this filter. A filter will not do you much good. Run the pool pump and cleaner once you make sure it’s in good working order.
  • If the weather is hot in your region, it’s safe to pull the pool cover a day or two early so the water is not steaming when it’s time for the kids to start doing cannonballs.
