Chlorine Tablets 101
Our pool service experts want to inform you on the best way to put chlorine in your pool. There are a few different ways to distribute chlorine into your pool, and we’re going to go through them and explain why which ones are better for different types of pools. The most common 4 used are In a chemical floater, To a Skimmer, An automatic Chlorinator, and to sprinkle chlorine right into the pool water.
If you own a vinyl liner pool we recommend you not use the floating dispenser. The chlorine won’t be spread around the pool properly with water not flowing through it continuously and it could potentially bleach the sides of the liner.
If you only own the floater or skimmer baskets, adding the chlorine tablets to the skimmer baskets is your best bet. Why? Well the baskets will rotate around the pool and when around the filters it pushes the chlorine around the pool and dissolves the tablets more evenly.
With a vinyl liner on your pool the automatic chlorinator is the best option for you. It is much easier to use than having to distribute the chlorine tablets by hand or in the skimmer baskets. It is a long term use item and is well worth the money. Not only that you can put large amounts of chlorine and it adds an even amount to your pool, and it avoids bleaching your pool liner.
One 3” Chlorine Tablet is equivalent to 5,000 gallons of water. Own a 20,000 gallon pool? You’d use 4 tablets of chlorine. Always round up! If your pool is 16,000 you’d use 4 tablets of chlorine. This is if you’re distributing it on your own, or you add them to the skimmer baskets. If you have the Chlorinator pump then you just fill it up and it’ll do the rest for you!
